Volunteer

Volunteering with Hospice Atlanta is a great way to give back to the community, build new relationships, and learn about our mission and services. Visiting Nurse and Hospice Atlanta are grateful to the more than 250 volunteers who contribute to the success of our programs!

Ways You Can Volunteer

  • Visit with patients and families in their homes and in our Hospice Atlanta Center
Listen to their stories, read to them or pray with them–be a friend on their journey and provide a comforting presence. At a patient’s home you can provide caregiver respite, companionship to the patient or caregiver, or run errands.
  • Visit with a Veteran
As a proud national hospice partner with We Honor Veterans, Visiting Nurse Health System is committed to providing end-of-life care that meets the unique needs of our Nation’s Veterans and their families. Veterans enjoy sharing their stories with volunteer companions who have also served.
  • Take care of a hospice patient’s pet
Help home hospice patients and their dogs and cats stay together through the Pet Peace of Mind program. Provide services such as pet sitting, grooming, picking up and delivering food and supplies, transporting pets, changing the litter box, and taking them for walks.
  • Assist our Bereavement Team
Support our bereavement team by helping with mailings, calls to loved ones, and participate in support services after a patient has died.
  • Spend a weekend at camp
Camp STARS, a bereavement camp for families offered two weekends a year, provides a safe environment for children and adults to share their feelings and learn how to grieve in an emotionally healthy way. Volunteers help with various fun activities at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA
  • Be a part of the Speakers’ Series
If you enjoy public speaking, we have opportunities for you to give presentations about healthcare topics to your organization, facility, club, civic group or house of worship.
  • Volunteer for a Fundraising Event
    • Join a host committee or other volunteer positions for our fundraising events in the spring and fall. Learn about our mission and services and share your resources and relationships to help secure in-kind and sponsorship support.

To learn more about these two event opportunities, please email the Office of Advancement or call 404-215-6010.

  • Assemble care packages for Community Health clients in CCSP, SOURCE, and HCBS
Most clients who receive community health services through Visiting Nurse Health System have functional impairments and live on a fixed/limited income—with your help, our clients can maintain their hygiene, health, and dignity. We are in need of:
  • Adult undergarment care packages – diapers and pull-ups/briefs in sizes Adult Small to Adult 3X (must be in original sealed packaging)
  • Ensure/Glucerna care packages – all flavors; non-refrigerated
  • Toiletry care packages – toothbrushes and paste; unscented lotions, body wash, wipes, hand sanitizer; emery board and nail clippers, sugar-free cough drops; unscented lip balm, unscented deodorant (non-aerosol); Kleenex
  • Healthy non-perishable food care packages – low-sodium soups/vegetables; fruit in own juice; granola bars, canned tuna/chicken, brown rice, etc.

For more information, please email Visiting Nurse’s Community Health Division.
